Top: A typical image produced by a geophysical contractor. Although a bulls-eye target (circled) appears to be clearly evident, there is no indication of uncertainty. The target might not appear at all in another contractor’s interpretation of the same data.

Bottom: Once uncertainty has been established, it may be that the target is unresolvable by one or more potential contractors. In this case, the picture is fuzzier. Before making drilling decisions, it is important to know which image is most realistic.
